Consumption activities can be done solo

A lot of my friends look at me weird when I tell them that I go to the movies alone. Even the security guard at the movie theatre muttered puzzled, “1 ticket?“. However, I see nothing wrong in going for a consumption activity alone. If I’m really there to watch the movie, or listen to a set, or explore an exhibit, I don’t need company. Sometimes, it’s better with company, sometimes it’s better solo – but neither seems weird to me.

As we age and it’s harder to coordinate multiple people’s schedules to enjoy a movie, people usually just skip the theatre experience. Instead, I just go solo. I’ve seen at least 3 movies by myself in the theatre in 2024. It’s the social perception that makes it weird. Otherwise, it’s a perfectly fine activity to enjoy by yourself.
