It can be said that Steve was changing the world during that time while leading Apple, but I doubt whether the average engineer would consider they are changing the world today. The same goes for Google and Meta today, where it has been pointed out that the most brilliant engineers of our time are working on how to get more clicks on ads.

I don’t think everyone needs to be changing the world. It’s completely fine to contribute with your skills in a capitalist market and enjoy your life. But as an interesting though experiment, it’s nice to think about which companies are truly working on world changing innovation today.
