Even accounting for the fact that the Tesla Robotaxi AI event is supposed to be a marketing prop to create buzz for the company, I’m still in complete awe of what has been demoed. Yes, the robotaxi still feels a fair few years ahead of its time (especially if you’re driving on Indian roads like me), and Optimus making a couple of drinks is a far cry from it being able to help with general domestic chores – however, it’s not hard to extrapolate how technology will only get better with time (even if the timelines are not as optimistic as Elon sometimes predicts publicly). I have a couple of thoughts buzzing at the moment.

First, if humanity gets rid of the commute and all domestic chores, the amount of time and productivity unlocked would be humongous! Like with any invention in the past that unlocked huge amounts of time and productivity gains (faster transport, instant communication, automating labor like with dishwashers and washing machines), it will probably have near universal adoption and unlock precious bandwidth for humanity to tackle harder challenges.

Secondly, at today’s market cap of ~750bn USD (share price of 239 USD), has this already been priced into $TSLA? I feel like it hasn’t been, and TSLA market cap can 2x-5x in the next 5 years (Note: this is not financial advice, I don’t own $TSLA directly, will check back in 5 years). There is competition in other players working on the same problems, but I feel the pie is so big, even if multiple challengers crack the problem around the same time, the demand would be overwhelming.
